The Annual Chinese SoTL Conference is a national forum hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and co-organized by the Chinese Higher Education Development Network (CHED). Since its first edition in 2019, it has successfully convened six sessions.
The first conference was held on July 4-5, 2019, at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, with the theme "Teaching Stories Through the Lens of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)." Over 450 higher education scholars, frontline teachers, and faculty development professionals from more than 70 universities nationwide gathered to engage in in-depth exchanges on SoTL .
The second conference took place on July 3-4, 2020, under the theme "SoTL Empowering Teaching Quality Enhancement." A total of 4,719 participants from 525 universities across the country joined virtually, creating a cloud-based summit for higher education teaching development .
The third conference was held on July 2-3, 2021, with the theme "Reflection and Vision: SoTL in the New Normal of Teaching." The two-day event accumulated nearly 5,000 online participants .
The fourth conference convened on July 1-2, 2022, themed "SoTL: From Learning Outcomes to Student Success." Over 430 scholars, teachers, and teaching development staff from 84 universities participated virtually .
The fifth conference was held from June 29 to July 1, 2023, with the theme "SoTL: Integrating Education and Cultivating Innovative Talents." Representatives from more than 80 universities, totaling 262 participants, gathered at Shanghai Jiao Tong University to discuss new paradigms, missions, and visions for SoTL development .
The sixth conference took place from April 19-21, 2024, under the theme "SoTL: Generative AI and Lifelong Learning." Over 400 frontline teachers and teaching development professionals from 95 universities nationwide convened at Shanghai Jiao Tong University to explore innovative paths for SoTL in the era of AI .
